Young Goodman Brown Questions

  1. To show how religous groups lost faith due to the belief of witches.
  2. No because she loses herself to the devil but initially at the beggining, yes. After Faith loses her ribbon Brown loses his faith.
  3. I think that the pink ribbons signify innocence and purity.
  4. I think that the story is a dream because while he is in the field witnessing the meeting, the story suddenly moves to the morning the next day and no one is say is mentioning anything about a meeting and the ministers are going up their buisness giving sermons.
  5. I think that the old man adumbrated what Brown was going to be like after the night was over. Hints of this is how he was similar to Brown except his facial expressions.
  6. The staff represents temptation? I think the staff leads onwards because because Brown didn't want to continue but the old man insisted and handed him the staff to help him move faster.
  7. He probably would've went on living his normal life and still had his faith and had no problem with any other people because there'd be nothing to question them on.

Socratic seminar notes

Thread 1:   Do you agree or disagree with your right to your own opinion?
                  - Yes because n your mind, your opinion maybe right to you but not to others who are listening to it. Sometmes, your opinion should be kept in your head because it may hurt or offend someone or even get you into trouble. These opinions are best showed when you know its going to benifit others around you and not just you.

vocab

Last week adumbrated alot to me how class assignments would be done, even when i first walked through the door. The idea of blogging our class asignments so everyone could see seemed a wierd idea to me at first but know i see how much more accesable and reliable it can be since online comunication seems to be the apotheosis of all technology in our time. So as i get used to this class room setting, i begin to like it more and more. It is nothing like the traditional english class book work that i've done over the years and now seems to be more of a bauble compared to this class. Over the summer, i had older friends give me mixed reviews about this class. Some saying it was the hardest thing they have ever taken, and others that it was easy depending on how much work you put in. Well i must say that i was beguiled by thoughs who said this class was hard because so far, i find it pretty easy.
This class is offering so much just literature too. My skills with using online tools are going to see a great burgeon in this school year. It is also the perfect complement for most students in our time because the mass majority of us own smartphones and computers at home and go online every day. There are a selcet few students that i have seen though that are contumacious about this new style off schooling and i can see that if they don't jump on board soon, the year wont be look to good for them. So far to you dont seem to be a cranky curmudgeon or a didactic teacher because i dont tend to do so well with teachers like that. Im not to sure if you are a ascetic person or not nor do i completly understand what that word means but it doesnt sound like a bad thing.
Hello, my name is malik and I am in your 2 period american literature class. My reasons for take your class is that now in days it is a lot harder to get accepted into college so the more classes i take, the better it will look for me. I had also heard that this class had a different style of teaching that made everything much easier for the students. Something thats excited me from day one is how we are going to be using these online tools for most of are school work that can easly be acceced and done from every where. For instance I'm doing this right now on my phone while my friends are asleep so i dont have to procrastinate till i get home. The only thing that worries me is that i dont completely have this "blogging" thing down and that I'll miss asignments but i can always just call a friend for help with that. Some goals i look to achieving in this course is to become better at reading and actually understanding what i am reading because most times, i miss the bigger picture.Another goal i have for this class which wasnt even a goal until i got into the class is to learn more about the uses of online comunication and security. This really peaked my intrest because i have two uncles that know computers inside and out and i would like to know stuff like this aswell. After the end of this course, i plan to be able to understand literature in a way that it just seems familiar to me and also the uses that i can make from blogging. Well i hope out of this you can better see the intentions i have for this course and i look foward to being in class.
