My favorite part of this year was learning about modernism and postmodernism. These two literary genres are both things that I see normally everyday so its really easy to relate to compared to all the other genres

Johnny cyberpunk

The story is about a man who knows some sort of information that everyone wants to know. The information is such a big deal that people are after him so he must stay on the run. I get this impression because of the beginning line of the story saying that johnny was packing a shotgun in his bag.

Slaughterhouse chp. 6

I found this chapter very confusing. I found out though that the US becomes 20 nations and billy dies but after goes back in time. The time warping is really beginning to confuse me and I'm losing track of what is happening.

Slaughterhouse five chp. 5

- Billy is held in a zoo on tramalfador where he is asked questions.
- Billy states that he is just as happy in the zoo as he is on earth.
- said that statement that billy gives a good thing or bad thing?
-the universe ends when a tramalfadorian pilot accidentally blows it up.
-the tralmafadors explain to billy that they will never stop the pilot from blowing the universe up because it's structured that way.

Slaughterhouse five chp. 4

- Billy waits in his backyard to be abducted by the tralmafadors.
- why is weary blaming billy for his death?
- Why dies lazzaro want to avenge weary?
- why does Vonnegut keep travelling in time to random areas?

Postmodernism idea

I want to somehow put a collage or video of something ironic or humorous similar to the videos our Student teacher showed us.

Slaughterhouse five chp.3

- Billy and Weary are captured by German soldiers and forced to surrender there valuables.
- Why does Billy see Adam and eve in the boots.
- Do Billy time jumps mean anything?
- The German soldiers stage a capture to look good.

Slaughterhouse five chp.2

- Billy states that he has become unstuck in time, what does that mean?
- Is Billy really traveling in time or is he just dreaming?
- Billy seems to be going through his life as if nothing really affects him.
- What is making Billy believe that he is traveling to Tralmafador?
- How does using Tralmafador relate to this story?

Slaughter house five chp.1

-Billy decides to write a book about his experiences in Dresden.
- Billy talks about what happened in Dresden as if it were humorous but at the same time says it's serious.
- What is Billy's view on his time in Dresden?
- Who is the narrator of the story because it sounds as in the author is telling it.

Applied modernism

The following stories are categorized as modernism: Fahrenheit 451, Theme for English B and Richards Cory. For starters, all these literary works were written in the years when modernism first arose. The stories also use their thoughts on society being impersonal like in F451 where people are oblivious to what's to be cared about or Theme for English B which talks about a student which no one understands. The poetry that's is written modernist also has short images in which was a technique used.

My modernist view

I think that my writing has changed greatly in the past five years. Over the years I've became more mature and able to understand things I had then. Not only have I changed but also the world around me. Responsibility had become a factor and also the stresses that you hear about everyday influences how I think and how I put those thoughts on paper.

My modernist

I chose Scott F. Fitzgerald because he uses his relationship problems with his wife to write his novels.

I CAN READ!!!

This is the first time english class was physically straining! I need a glass of water after this.

The First Seven Years

I really didn't find the ending to this story quiet surprising. I saw that Sobel and Miriam had some kind of connection through the books but sobels reason for working for Feld and his response towards Feld trying to set max up with his daught did. I find that he must be in love with Miriam deeply for him to continue working for Feld even though he has to wait 2 more years.

LAQ: Fahrenhiet 451 by Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit 451 is a story about a future society that lives like mindless zombies and are considered socially awkward. In this world firemen burn books instead of put out fires. It follows fireman Guy Montag over a period of time where his thinking process changes drastically because of the influence of books.

Guy Montag is the main character of this story and is a dynamic character.
He like all other people in this world are influenced by the media that is produced and is very simple minded. We see this change during the course of the story starting with the arrival of Clarisse. She was the first person we see in this world that actually thinks for herself and is considered anti social. The questions she asks Montag are simple but is still enough to get his brain turning because after his first encounter with her, he begins questioning things on why things work the way they do. It's then we see a new Montag who isn't content with his life and starts looking for ways to change how society works

Mildred is Guy Montags wife and she is a static character. She is very narrow minded and doesn't care about anything but her "walls" and "seashells". During Montage transformation he asks her question and talks to her in a way she just ignores or give selfish, simple answers too. A moment of this is when Montag is tell her about his experience with the burning woman in which she replies "I hate her, she shouldn't have had books". Nothing ever matters to her unless it's going to get her in trouble and she shows this when she reports Montag for possesion of books.

Clarisse is also a static character, but only because she had no time to develop in the story. When she is first introduced she already comes off as different from other people. She is the reason for Montags dramatic changes.I believe she would have became a dynamic character if she hadn't died.

Captain Beatty is a dynamic character with Montag. Around the same time we also begin seeing Beatty turn into the antagonist of the story when Montag starts finding out more and more about the truth. In the scenes coming to his death, the reader can start to see that he is very knowledgeable about books and is heard quoting famous writings like Shakespeare.

Ray Bradbury uses different literary element throughout the story. It seemed that one of the most used was foreshadowing. We see this right at the beginning of the story when Montag looks at the vent and sees a shadowy outline in there. It's not until later that we find out that there are books hidden in the vent which shows that he was interested even before clarisse came along. The mechanical hound was another source of foreshadowing when Montag first arrives at the fire station. The hound seemed not to like him already and later on, that hound would be trying to kill him.

Bradbury also uses symbols throughout the story to give readers more meaning to what they are seeing. One mentioned throughout the story is the salamander which is on the firemens uniform, I had to look up the meaning behind it which came up mentioning that the salamander is believed not to burn but I find it quiet ironic that Beatty burns to death. Another symbolic thing in this story is the phoenix. At the end of the story, Granger talks of how society is a phoenix and will be reborn once again after the city is bombed by jets.

My F451

This novel is about a fireman in the future who instead of puts out fires, starts them by burning books. In his time everyone is very narrow minded and don't care about anything but media. One day after his shift, his thinking process is changed dramaticly by an odd ball girl named clarrise who is said to be anti-social for talking alot instead of watching tv and playing sports. As his life went on, he began looking at what he does in a different way especialy after a women burned herself when she refused to leave her books. Montag has a hard time dealing with it and takes a break from the fire station. Durning his break, Beatty reveals to Montag the truth of the firemens history. After Montag reveals his stash of books to Mildred who is strongly aggainst it and Montag goes to a professor named faber. Faber gives Montag a listening device so that they can plan to take down the firemen. Before this happens Mildred reports Montag. He is forced to then bur down his house but when he finishes, he kills Beatty and the hound and runs away. He is on the run until he is in the countryside where he meets the book people. There he finds out they memorize there books and plan to fix society.

Parlor Poetry

The Mask by Lisa Willhite

Existing in the realm, of its own true hell
the pacing of the parasite begins to swell
it suffers in silence yet demands to be heard
it will never survive without its bevy of words

as an infant, it fed, on what it desired
and the need to grow was quickly retired
it donned a mask it had soon acquired
and eventually dressed in regal attire

I am! I am! it said aloud
while hiding behind a glistening shroud
to none it wavered to none it bowed
worthy am I! it heartily vowed

as a thief of hearts, it sought our souls
and refused to acknowledge the unspeakable tolls
it relished our pain our faults and our woes
acted as friend yet lived as foe

for the lower we were, the higher it’s rise
sometimes nestled on pillows, feathered with lies
soaring as an eagle, through bright blue skies
impeding the light, from watchful eyes

it changed lies to belief and that belief to admiration
it became its own form, of revered celebration
though to those who saw, through the garish decoration
it was nothing more than sheer abomination

these were few, who could actually see
how sad and sickened, this thing could be
they lost their battles, to make it flee
as it wiggled in joy and laughed with glee

and a new found strength, was gained from the seers
they found it flaunting, in front of its peers
for this mask was now learn-ed and it shed false tears
and a victim was born, its path, though not cleared

for as day turns to night, conflicts persist
the heart can grow cold, but the soul still resists
new defenders of truths will continue to enlist
and the spirit of God will always assist

yes a fight ensued, yet the beast stood tall
and flashed it’s lies, fooling most all
it cried poor me, and with such great gall
It is I who has suffered!, was it’s deceptive call

the truths presented the stern manipulations
the deeds that were done, with much stipulation
the lies that served, as mere stimulations
and these they hoped, were condemning revelations

the mask took form, and revealed a child
the innocence of eyes that appeared softly wild
no sign of his pride, no sign of the vile
how dare the "truths" accuse him of guile

hearts blood flowed, and non seers cried
as the villagers witnessed a man so tried
a man who was beaten, and his humanity denied
a man who was not evil, but sanctified!

The steel once hot, now cooled to strength
it enveloped his soul and his body at length
the blood of hearts, flowing in sync
protected him now from morality’s links

alas truth lost, but so did the beast
for a cancer did grow, and on lies it did feast
from within his throat, it locked in its feet
and his mask is now meeting a deadly defeat

Existing in the realm, of its own true hell
the pacing of the parasite begins to swell
it suffers in silence yet demands to be heard
it will never survive without its bevy of words

I think that Montag and Bradbury chose this poem because he really wants to show that the people in the story aren't in touch with there emotions so when they do come out, there not to sure what is happening.

Memorization strategies

I had technical difficulties with my phone so no video, but what i can do is give a strategy that i just found out works very well for me. Instead of continuosly reading everything you have to memorize, put it into chuncks. Two lines at a time saying them repeatedly worked out well and I think it can benifit others in our class

Spring Semester Plan 1

This semester, It would really help me if this time around i stayed on top of my LAQ's. I had books read but never posted them and then by the time I went back to it, I forgot bits and pieces of the story. Another plan for this semester is also to take better notes during class discussions. The notes that i did have helped me out so much. I felt that I kept on top of blog posts but that can also get better. I also could do better on my vocab because that was something I costantly struggled on throughout last semester.

Theme for English 3

Are you the person your teachers think you are?
- It just depends what the teacher is like. To some teachers, I may come off as quiet and just there and thats because the teacher is one of those people thats just there to get paid and doesn't care. Then I have some other teachers that make it almost seem like there a student with you and you can actually conversate with them. So teachers like that I feel free to be me.

Can you be your real self as you pursue knowledge and find your place in the world?
-Yes because coming at knowledge with a good attitude and just accepting it and adding it into everyday life will make learning better

What do you feel compelled to keep private?
- family life and personal life is something i keep to myself and only close friends. Letting it out there is what starts rumors and drama and so far, I haven't had to deal with any and I plan on keeping it that's and it fun just listening to evryone elses.

Spring Post 1: Music as Literature

1. Can we consider music to be literature?
- Yes, we can consider music to be literatutre. Music is apart of everyone no matter the genre. Music is poetry being told in a more catchy way. They can tell life stories or a way for a person to express thought.

2. How do we define literature?
- As said by someone in class today (sorry i can't remember who said it) but it is hard to give a definition for what literature is because it is always changing but it is found in all forms.

3. What is the difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony?
- The only difference is how there told or presented. All of them them tell a story
