intercede- to act or interpose in behalf of someone in difficulty or trouble
The parent decided to intercede for the kids because he was helped out that way as a child.

 hackneyed- made commonplace or trite
The concept of an evil corporation is pretty hackneyed at this point.

approbation- approval
Most kids need approbation from parents before they go out for the weekend.

innuendo- an indirect intimation about a person or thing, especially of a disparaging or a derogatory nature.
There is no point replying to this kind of innuendo

coalition- a combination or alliance, especially a temporary one between persons, factions, states
the two armies formed a coalition to fight for a greater cause.

elicit- to draw or bring out or forth
We will now elicit the next trial for the day

hiatus- a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action
Most artist and movies have a hiatus to build up demand for the next piece of work

assuage- to make milder or less severe
You must talk kindly to little kids to assuage there crying

decadence- the act or process of falling into an inferior condition or state
the original ipod touch was the Superior gadget for many years until it was perfected and became a decadence

expostulate- to reason earnestly with someone against something that person intends to do or has done
many religions try to expostulate other people from other religions to join

simulate- to create a likeness or model
Our football team puts together a scout team to play against our own starting team to simulate what our opponent will do

jaded- dulled or satiated by overindulgence
the famous actor was becoming a bit jaded

umbrage- to feel offence or annoyance
the teenager was feeling umbrage from the youngsters running around him

prerogative- an exclusive right, privilege
seniors can go off campus which is prerogative to only 3.0 students

lurid- gruesome, horrible or revolting
i watched the movie paranormal activity 3 and thought it was very lurid

transcend- to rise above or go beyond
to be the best, you must transcend on your work

provincial- belonging or peculiar to some particular province
The provincial authorities launched a crackdown this week, but little is expected of it

petulant- moved to or showing sudden, impatient irritation, especially over some trifling annoyance
 Ghosts would elicit responses, both petulant and admiring, across an unusual national spectrum

unctuous- characterized by excessive piousness or moralistic fervor, especially in an affected manner
 When bitten, they collapsed with an unctuous squeal

meritorious- deserving reward, self esteem
